As the end of another year draws closer, we want to take the time to reflect on the past year. How has the industry been affected and how the uptake for used construction machinery has changed. For any companies that use plant equipment daily, find out how the market is going to change…
HOW WAS THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AFFECTED IN 2021?
The ongoing global pandemic has certainly had a huge part to play in 2021. In 2020, we were all well aware of COVID-19, however we did not realise the impact it would have. Until the world came to a complete standstill that is. Although the gears are now in motion to try and get back to some form of normality.
The construction industry was one of the first sectors to get backed by the government. This time last year, Boris Johnson announced the improved help to buy scheme for first time buyers. The beginning of 2021 then saw a huge increase in the amount of houses being built, nearly 50,000 homes to be exact. The highest figure in just over 20 years!
Aside from the pandemic, the construction industry has also had to deal with:
- Supply chain issues
- High steel prices
- Electronic part shortages
- Plus labour challenges
Not only did this push up the prices of used construction machinery, it also meant that the existing equipment was in very high demand!
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE IN 2022?
Despite the constant tightening of COVID-19 restrictions, the construction industry has hopefully got through the worst of it. So what should we expect to see in 2022?
Well the housing market will certainly be booming still. It is estimated that home sales are predicted to increase by 6.6% on top of 2021 alone. Under new regulations, all new homes must produce less CO2 to help the country move to a more sustainable future. Homes should be producing around 30% lower than the current emissions.
Secondly, the high demand for plant equipment is predicted to stay the same as this year. As new machines cannot be produced due to the various issues mentioned above, more companies are turning to used construction machinery instead. So it’s fantastic news for us here at BuyADigger, but customers best be quick to snap up some fantastic deals.
